Merging with the Consciousness of an Animal was not my intention. As I write about in The Awakened Psychic, when I was practicing my meditation with the intention of “meeting” an Animal Spirit Guide I didn’t really think about “merging” with the animal. Yes, I thought I might “feel” like the animal, but I never really imagined how “real” those sensations would be. Some of these instances were so real that I feared I’d become confused as to whether I was a wolf or a woman.
And now I understand the origin of the werewolf’s myth.
Shapeshifting, or merging with the consciousness of an animal, is common knowledge in ancient and Shamanic cultures. When the ancient Scotts would go to battle the warriors would merge with the consciousness of the bear. Their somewhat unreasonable craziness of aggression led to the development of a new English word… berserk. But I don’t choose to linger in aggression, so my intended experiences are much more sedate.
I’ve used crystal placement on my body to lapse into a meditative state, and during that state, I would set my intention and hold that intention in a crystal held in my palm, to “greet” a spirit animal. My original purpose for greeting spirit animals was simply to remember, or “learn,” all the illustrations of animals that were in an Oracle Card Deck that I owned, and to correspond said card with a specific crystal. But my “experiment” had other plans.
I never considered that the consciousness of Animal Spirits could be so vast, or so human-like. The She-wolf I merged with was a loving mother, and a fierce hunter. Like a raw human who needed to survive in the elements, and yet found the time to play and nurture when her needs were met; her belly was full, there was plenty of nearby prey, or she knew of stored carron readily available.
While sharing with this wolf I nurtured my cubs, played with other wolves, and hunted prey as a pack. I interacted as through the eyes of the wolf’s perspective and was quite surprised at the sensations of having my scruff pulled, the football player knowledge of how to run down an opponent, (or in this case prey) while simply “knowing” what the other wolves were “thinking,” or the warm blood sensation in my mouth after a kill.
Experiencing “shapeshifting” by accident led me to actively seeking out a Shaman to study with. And this led to learning how to “journey” with the beat of a drum with a better understanding. Other than loving our pets, our modern culture has no societal beliefs of the benefits of merging with an animal consciousness. But the Ancients used this technique to find their prey, hunt it down, and to organize the kill.
We may be civilized humans, but I believe we evolved from more primitive beings that used the psychic mind BEFORE the spoken word. And this is what I’m suggesting tapping into. A lost art for many people. But an ability that can be achieved.
Intention.
Find the stillness of the mind. Allow the intention of a chosen experience to set the path. Then allow the experience to unfold… it is a simple as that!
You can use an extensive recipe, or a ritual, or you can simply practice with a trained drummer who can lead you on a journey. Whatever course you choose is the best… for you.
Until next time… Namaste,
Suzy 😊
